Custom Orthotics & Insurance Coverage in BC
What to know about extended health claims, the documentation insurers ask for, and which agencies we can direct bill.
Extended health plans
Many extended health plans contain coverage for custom foot orthotics and other health services. You will need to check your plan documents or contact your plan administrator to confirm the amount and what is covered.
What claims generally require
- A referral or prescription from your primary care or allied health practitioner with a valid medical diagnosis
- Documentation from your orthotic provider: a Biomechanical Examination Report and details of the orthotic casting and fabrication methods and materials
We provide the provider documentation. See what the examination includes.
Direct billing
Generally, we are unable to direct bill extended health providers. Some government agencies allow direct billing with written pre-authorization. If you are eligible through any of the following agencies, contact us for more information or to start a claim:
- WorkSafeBC
- ICBC
- Ministry of Social Development / MSSH
- Department of Veterans' Affairs / VAC
- RCMP
- Canadian Armed Forces
- First Nations Health Authority
What it costs up front
One pair of custom foot orthotics totals $550: $100 for the examination and $450 for the orthotics. Follow-ups and adjustments are free for 6 months from your fitting date.
This is general information. Always confirm your coverage with your plan administrator.
